The man with the magazine cover for a face staring into your soul is none other than Chris Kontakis … eeko studio’s new Art Director!
Get to know Chris, the one man behind one-man show Localrevibe Magazine among other fantastic things.
Graphic design background: 10+ years experience in the web and graphic design industry. Also experience in print production, photography and video production. I’ve worked for a few start up companies based out of Phoenix, Florida, Los Angeles and San Francisco in the past. The last company I had worked for was an entertainment site for the indie film community where I traveled and shot interviews and behind the scenes videos with indie directors. In the process, I shot all the video, audio production, edited and learned site monetization helping build what was at first a 4-person team and a blog, to a 40+ team company with a full film studio in Burbank and an Alexa site rank of 19, making the blog one of the most popular in the U.S. for 2011 and one of the top ten ad distributors from 2010-2012.
Before all this, it began with my passion for photography. I’ve done wedding photography but my passion has always been journalism photography. I enjoy capturing real moments, when people aren’t looking at the camera. My passion for photography eventually lead me to creating Localrevibe Magazine, a local Phoenix based print publication showcasing downtown Phoenix culture, business and food! This allowed me to go out and shoot photos of people doing creative things, capturing the Downtown Culture.
Favorite thing about what I do?
I love design and anything creative. I though that over 10+ years that I would be burnt out but it’s the complete opposite! Taking client ideas and bringing them to life has always been the most exciting process and I hope to continue for at least another 10 years!
What did I want to work at eeko?
I wanted to join a local team that I personally felt I could be part of, a team that did exciting projects and actually took the time to care for each individual project rather than pushing out whatever worked. Also knowing that the company has involvement with CO+HOOTS was a huge factor in wanting to work with eeko. The environment at CO+HOOTS helps you be even more creative on a daily basis, watching those around you build new and exciting things!
What should the CO+HOOTS community know about me?
I make mean Greek dessert pastries! Just part of coming from an old-school Greek family.
What is one thing people don’t know about me?
I’ve actually owned a few businesses in the past, some that had nothing to do with creative. For a few years, my brother and I owned a few dry cleaning businesses. I learned a lot about management and running a very complex business and, of course, customer service. I also love home projects, remodeling, etc. I even got a chance to build my own house back in 2005 (took me 10 months) but still got it done. This was sort of a passion project that I got a chance to do starting with just a dirt lot.
If I had a 100 Billion Dollars, what would I do?
I would help out a lot of people first, give back to the community and make sure family and friends are taken care of. Then I would buy a small beach house (somewhere quiet), a really big hammock, BBQ and relax for a few months before I get back to the creative world, probably invest in groups that need money to get their amazing ideas off the ground.
First thing I’ll do when the zombie apocalypse comes?
I would find an abandoned prison, build a community, a small farm, fight with neighboring communities … wait, that was season 3 of The Walking Dead?
Why am I awesome?
I love what I do, all day every day!
