:: Haiti 2.0 Day Four ::

LES CAYES, HAITI –  Rain poured down as if an ark was waiting for it to fill the earth.

We sat on the porch of the Global Family Philanthropy home, under a roof, helpless to Mother Nature’s whims.  But we didn’t mind, for once. Not one bit.

Strands of gold could replace the air and we still would rather be right where we were. With the GFP children in our arms, their smiles in our eyes, and their love in our hearts.

We were right where we belong.

They say nothing happens in Haiti when it rains. The entire country shuts down. Schools are out. Stores are closed. Nothing happens in Haiti when it rains? Whoever said that has never been a volunteer at the GFP home.

Children who once never felt love, now have that in abundance. Children who once never felt a cherishing embrace, now have those available unprovoked. Children who once never knew what it was to have a caring family, now just simply do.

We traveled to Haiti again for these children. To be around them again. To play with them. To learn about who they are and their distinct personalities.

But we also came to work. We came to paint, to help finish whatever needs to be done. But today, the rain has cancelled those plans. And for now, we welcome it.

There is no other place we would rather have been. But right here, putting the babies to sleep. Helping the other GFP children complete puzzles and make bracelets and stuffed chicks. Teaching them songs and singing with them. And playing soccer with them through the showers.

So let the rain pour down as if the oceans rose to the sky and emptied on the earth.

We were right where we belong.
